If you hadn’t already known, ASL stands for American Sign Language, a language spoken without words! This is a useful language for people with deafness or muteness due to their inability to either understand or vocalize their words. You don’t want to be constantly writing down on scrap papers what you want to say, right?
As such, if you’re a friend or parent to someone with these conditions, it might be necessary to learn.
Let’s get into the basics.
When you want to refer to another person, you would normally point to the person you’re referencing. Point at yourself for “I”, point at the person you’re talking to for “You”, you get the gist! If you wanted to refer to multiple people at once, just make a sweeping gesture for “They”!
Let’s say, for instance, you want to ask for someone’s name. You put your index and middle fingers together and tap onto each other to say “Name”!
If you want to ask for someone’s name, you point at them and do the aforementioned gesture!
